Events Update, Keeping Active & Connected

Since the announcement from the Taoiseach on March 12th we have been preparing contingency plans for Swim For a Mile (SFAM) events. Latest public announcements around Coronavirus and it’s impact across Ireland, suggest an uncertain few months ahead. Please know that we are working to cover all possibilities and provide the opportunity for you to complete your swim in a safe and enjoyable environment.

You may have noticed that Swim Ireland announced last week the cancellation of all competitions originally scheduled to take place between now and August. This decision was not taken lightly and follows the most recent decrees of both the Irish and UK governments.

In light of this and the current climate, we unfortunately move towards The SFAM Contingencey Plan;

  • 6 week training programme from August 17th – September 27th (depending on event date). Training may resume sooner in specific pools, depending on availability.
  • SFAM Events to take place between September 27th and October 26th, events have been scheduled for the same day and time as original events (where possible).

Our participating pools are working with the proposed schedule of events and will need some time to confirm details. We will work to keep all participants updated on specific event dates via this weekly newsletter.

We are saddened to postpone the event, but we also feel that this is the best way to provide a safe environment, clear timeline and enough time for you to prepare for your swim after the impact of Coronavirus subsides.

All participants will have the option of completing the swim in your own time, away from a busy event if that is what you feel most comfortable with. In this case we would post your SFAM event goodie bag out to you upon request.

We know that you are itching to get back into the water and resume the hard work that you had been putting in prior to this pandemic. We hope that this time has at least opened doors into other forms of physical activity, that you may not have approached previously, but we can’t wait to see you back in the water either!

In the mean time we will be posting some home workout options to keep those endorphins flowing! Give them a go and let us know how you get on or if you would like to see something specific via emailFacebook or Twitter!

Don’t forget you can stay connected, while apart with today’s technology!

Why not give your SFAM training buddies a video call on WhatsApp to see how they are coping, complete a home workout together, or just have a cuppa and catch up!

Step 1; Open or create your WhatsApp group with fellow S’Milers

Step 2; Tap the phone + icon at the top of your group (beside group name and members)

Step 3; Select contacts to call (you can only select 4 people including yourself, other apps allow for more people, but most people already have WhatsApp on their phone!)

Step 4; Tap the camera icon for video call or phone icon for voice call!
